AC Compressor

Aftermarket ac compressor by Spectra Premium

The AC compressor is the heart of the air conditioning system by circulating the refrigerant within the system and pressurizing the system. The AC compressor increases the temperature of the refrigerant through compression before sending it toward the condenser.

Common AC Compressor Failure Symptoms

  • Compressor does not turn on
  • System blow arm air
  • Circuit breaker tripping
  • Vibration
  • Noise

Common Causes of Failure

Under ideal conditions, the AC compressor would last as long as the vehicle itself. However, several maintenance issues may shorten its lifespan and call for a replacement. The compressor needs proper lubrication to function, which means having sufficient oil, using the right type of oil for the specific part and remaining uncontaminated. Like the lubricant, the refrigerant level must neither be too high or too low for the compressor at the risk of damaging the part and the adjacent evaporator.

If the compressor builds up excessive pressure, the part will overheat which can cause it to leak or fail. Also, contamination from other parts of the system can cause the AC compressor to fail even after replacement.

You must change the accumulator when changing the AC compressor
